Nourishing the World in Body, Mind and Spirit
“Apathy has become democracy’s most insidious enemy in a growing number of societies.” Ban Ki-Moon
Former UN Secretary General
At Gift the World, we don’t just give physical aid. We ignite the joy of giving and the wellbeing that comes from feeling interconnected, to target poverty at its root.
Nearly half the world, 47%, lives on less than £5 a day. Yet internationally, in one season of online shopping, we spend almost four times what it would take to end global absolute poverty.
Over and above this tremendous physical need, one in every five people suffers from depression. However, Harvard Medical School researchers surveyed over 100,000 cases and found that connection was the strongest of 100 possible factors that reduce depression.
Why is there a gap between capacity and action to resolve these crises?
A deeper inner poverty of heart, rooted in feeling disconnected from self, others, and the world, affects us all and leads to increasing apathy globally. But behind every statistic is a person, a friend, a parent, a partner, or a child. No one is alone. There is help.
Our approach addresses poverty at all levels because they are part of a systemic whole. As such, we measure success not simply in mouths fed, but in happier, healthier people and communities.
